Learn to Type Quickly with a Unique Training Approach

Custom Typing Training is our web site devoted to helping you improve your typing speed.  A unique approach to learning is presented which has the following elements:

  • Training based on how your hand works: Custom Typing recognizes that most people have better control over their index and middle fingers than their ring and little fingers.  Our training program takes this into account, giving each set of fingers special attention.

  • Testing and practice: Custom Typing will test your ability up front and place you at the level that suits you best.  Throughout the training, you will have an opportunity to practice real-world typing, and measure your speed periodically to see how rapidly you are improving.

  • Basics and tutorials: Beginners can review the basics, including finger placement and proper technique.  An extensive tutorials and information section covers other topics as well, such as proper ergonomics.

  • Have fun while you learn: Typing games are included, and over 1000 typing exercises are available covering a wide variety of interesting and humorous topics.

Tip of the Week: Typing Special Characters and Symbols

Have you ever wondered how to type special characters such as a copyright symbol (©) or trademark (™)? If you're using Microsoft Word, some of these special symbols can be automatically created by typing certain sequences of keys. For instance, if you type (c), Word will automatically convert this into a © character. You can see a complete list of the special characters by going to the Autocorrect options under Word's "Tools" menu.

For other programs, you can use the Character Map utility. To access this, go to the Start menu, choose all Programs, then Accessories, then Character Map. Next, choose the font you're currently using to bring up a list of all characters and symbols available in that font. Double click on the character and then click the "copy" button to copy it to the clipboard. You can then paste the character into the program you are currently using.
