So, why is it called "Custom" Typing Training?

Custom Typing Training is our web site devoted to helping you improve your typing speed.  The "Custom" means that your training is customized for your unique needs.  Whether you are 8 or 80, or a beginner or an expert, this web site can help you learn to type faster and get more done in less time.  Here's how:

  • Our tests and exercises are divided into three main areas: adult, teen, and child.  Within each area, you will find a wide variety of exercises for your age group.  These includes long and short exercises, exercises to train specific keys, along with humor, interesting facts, and trivia to keep it interesting.

  • You can set a personal speed goal for yourself, in words per minute.  This could match up with a job requirement, or simply be double or triple your current speed.  Once you've set your goal, the web site will give you feedback, to let you know areas of strength and weakness.

  • Choose between a self-guided mode and a computer-guided mode:

    • In the computer-guided mode, an animated talking coach will guide you through the training step by step.  This is an excellent choice for beginners and younger typists.

    • In the self-guided mode, you're the boss!  Choose your own activities, including the exercises and training programs that best meet your needs.  When you need a break, try out our typing games to have some fun.

Schools, companies, and organizations have even more features available.  Through the included teacher/administrator account, customized exercises can be created, and you have the option of creating your own curriculum to meet the unique needs of your users.

Tip of the Week: Running Programs Automatically

Windows 2000 and XP provide a way to run programs on a pre-determined schedule. You can, for instance, tell Windows to launch your e-mail program and download your new messages just before you get up in the morning. That way, you messages are ready for you to read without having to wait for the download. To set this up, open the Scheduled Tasks control panel (it may be under the Performance and Maintenance category). Then, click on the "Add Scheduled Task" icon to create a new task and set its start time. Here, you will also find some advanced options which include the ability to run tasks if the computer has been idle for a period of time.
